Hawks, Shirley A. #2 (16 JUN 1956)
In the presence of the Rev. H. W. Gereau, Withee, Miss Shirley Arlene Hawks, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Allan Hawks, route 1, Curtiss (Clark Co., Wis.), exchanged nuptial vows with the Rev. William H. Schreffler of Stanley, in the Peace Evangelical and Reformed Church of Dorchester. The rites were read in a 1:30 o’clock ceremony Saturday afternoon, June 16, 1956.
When the bride appeared in the church for her marriage to the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Schreffler, Northumberland, Pa., she was viewed in a gown fashioned with a floor length nylon truffle over taffeta skirt. Her long sleeves tapered to points at the wrists. Covering the white bridal bible, which she carried, were red sweetheart roses with white stephanotis.
Attendants for the pair were Mr. and Mrs. Dick Smith, Stanley, the honor couple, and Mr. and Mrs. Dean Hawks, Spencer, brother and sister-in-law of the bride. Also in the wedding group were Rodney and David Hawks, Curtiss, brothers of the bride, who ushered in the church. Miniature attendants were Linda Jane Hawks, Curtiss, and Paul Smith, Stanley.
Shrimp Chantilly lace and net over taffeta was worn by the matron of honor, and Mrs. Hawks was attired in blue. Tiers of net formed the skirt, while the bodice was of Chantilly lace with matching jacket. They had pink and white carnations in their colonial bouquets. The flower girl, in a pink organdy dress, carried a bouquet similar to the older aides.
A reception honoring the couple was held in the church parlors immediately following the ceremony. The home of the groom in Pennsylvania is being visited on their honeymoon, and when the clergyman and his bride, return, they will take up residence at 135 First Ave., Stanley, where the Rev. Mr. Schreffler is pastor of the Apostolic Faith Assembly.
The bride is a 1955 Abbotsford High School graduate, and her husband, who graduated from Northumberland High School, is a graduate of the Apostolic Bible Institute in St. Paul, Minn.
For the wedding, guests came from Curtiss, Abbotsford, Unity, Spencer, Marshfield, Madison, Medford, Owen, Withee, Stanley and Bruce.
